Home New Vehicles Volkswagen Amarok

Uber Ute.
Three alternative driveline concepts for on-road and off-road use make it the ideal mode of transport over every kind of terrain.
Load space
With the widest load tray in its class, the new Amarok can pretty much swallow anything. The whopping 1,222mm between the wheel arches makes it the only dual-cab ute in Australia that can accommodate a full-size pallet. Add to that the well-positioned lashings located conveniently around the load space, the integrated light above the rear window to illuminate the tray and the fact that the tough tailgate can cope with loads up to 250kg, and the Amarok will take the brunt of the most extreme workloads.
Exterior
Dependant on the specification, the new Amarok comes with a host of exterior features designed to reflect its on road and off road capabilities. A range of front bumpers reflect the model, from robust and durable to colour coded, with chrome highlights and additional underbody design elements. A heavy duty rear bumper is available on Trendline, the perfect no-nonsense finish for your Amarok, or for Highline and Ultimate the Amarok comes specified with a stylish chrome bumper with integrated step for easier loading and access.
Interior
Combining the comfort and quality of Volkswagen passenger vehicles and the durability and practicality of our commercial vehicles, the new Amarok is a seamless blend of form and function. Capable of comfortably seating 5 adults, the spacious interior is made up of smart and durable materials, designed in a simple layout for driver and passenger.
Perhaps unexpected for a vehicle of this type, Amarok features various additions that emphasise the quality and attention to detail for which Volkswagen is famous. Make use of the multi-fix clip on the dashboard, used to hold various accessories including cupholders, a picture holder or the mounting point for the Bluetooth touchpad and take advantage of up to three 12-volt power outlets in the cabin. From Trendline specification upwards, there is a 12V outlet positioned on top of the dash to cut cable tangle.
ESP/ARS with off road mode
With an array of safety systems as standard, the new Amarok remains stable in any situation. ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Program), featuring Brake Assist, is one such system that keeps the Amarok on the right track. The system constantly monitors and evaluates data from all four wheels, and applies braking force where necessary to help prevent the vehicle swerving in critical conditions. The Brake Assist works in conjunction with the ESP and kicks in when the system recognises heavier than normal braking. It automatically applies extra braking pressure, which in combination with other systems such as ABS brings the Amarok to a safe and controlled stop. Unique for its class, the ESP system remains active even when the Amarok is operated in 4x4 High mode.
Off road ABS/ASR
When off-road conditions begin to get difficult, Amarok remains composed thanks to its range of safety systems. A first for vehicles of this class, Volkswagen has developed and improved systems such as the ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) to work in conjunction with the 4MOTION system, improving braking conditions off-road. As soon as the ‘Off Road’ mode is pushed, the braking interval is increased, and ESP and ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) are tuned to Off Road mode. In an emergency stop situation, the wheels are locked in a controlled manner, encouraging a build up of the loose surface material in front of each wheel, which can substantially reduce the stopping distance of the car.
EDL (Electronic Differential Lock)
Particularly useful on slippery, uneven surfaces, EDL locks the wheel that is spinning, transferring power to wheels that have grip. On 4MOTION models EDL is combined with a mechanical rear differential lock, which locks both rear wheels meaning they receive the same amount of power. This option offers optimal traction for varying surfaces.
Engines
The TDI engine in the Amarok comes in two different formats, both combining outstanding power and increased fuel efficiency. Both engines enjoy impressive fuel consumption figures under 8l/100km.
TDI340
The perfect engine for those looking to combine power and economy. The TDI340 turbocharged engine produces an impressive 340Nm torque, with 90kW of power offering substantial pulling power and significant reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. This engine is available with the 4x2 rear-wheel drive Amarok.
TDI400
This impressive Bi-turbo charged TDI option offers a significant 400Nm torque from only 1500rpm. The perfect engine for those looking for a smooth combination of power and performance, this engine is perfectly suited to the Amarok, allowing it to tow and carry substantial loads as well as seamlessly tackling off-road ruts or devouring freeway kilometres.
Drivelines
The flexibility of the Amarok gives you the choice of three drive systems, allowing you to configure the vehicle to your needs. If your Amarok will spend the majority of its time on the road, specify the 4x2 rear wheel drive format, which when combined with systems such as EDL, ESP and ASR makes it a more-than-capable load lugger. If you anticipate spending more time on slippery surfaces where traction is harder to find, the selectable 4MOTION all-wheel drive system will make light work of difficult slopes.
Normally running in rear-wheel drive mode, the system allows you to select 4x4 high and 4x4 ‘low range’, which adapts the drive systems accordingly, splitting the power 50/50 between the front and rear wheels to give you the most power in tricky situations. Amarok also offers the security of permanent 4MOTION. Power is distributed between the front and rear axle (40:60 front: rear), which ensures excellent driving dynamics on paved roads whatever the conditions. Should the driving surface change, the system automatically adapts to distribute power to driven wheels with the most traction.
When combined with other systems such as ESP, ASR and Hill Descent Assist, 4MOTION means Amarok will take you wherever you need to go.
